California State Railroad Museum 111 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 916-445-6645 The 100,000-square-foot museum is the finest and most visited of its kind in North America, displaying 21 restored locomotives and cars, 1,000 fantastic toy trains, all-new exhibits highlighting the human face of the railroad and the "Lost Spike".
Fairytale Town 3901 Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA 95822 916 264 5233 Fairytale Town is a city-owned, non-profit kid's park that has been a local institution since 1959. Fairytale Town livens up a number of favorite children's stories and rhymes with 25 fantastic play-sets. The 2.5-acre park is a launching pad for the young mind, with many options for exercise and education. It also has a puppet theatre, snack bars, and a petting zoo.
The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts 1020 O Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 916-653-7524 Spearheaded by Maria Shriver, the facility not only relates how the state came to be but highlights prominent men and women who made great strides in its progress. Visitors can board a 1949 cross-country bus to view a video on immigration, visit a Chinese herb shop maintained by a holographic proprietor, or stand on a gubernatorial balcony overlooking a sea of cameras and banners.
Governor's Mansion 1526 H Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 916-323-3047 From 1903 to 1967, this Victorian mansion was home to thirteen California governors. Today, guided tours lead visitors through beautifully decorated rooms that feature fourteen-foot ceilings. Tours are offered every hour on the hour.
